Where should I backup my data to?

e-Backup allows you to backup your data to four different locations.

Floppy Disks

Floppy disks are generally the best choice when saving small amounts of data.  However, because floppy disks typically only have around 1.44MB of storage space, if you are saving a high number of large files or folders, then floppy disks are probably not the best option as it will require many disks.

To the folder C:\ebackup (or any folder you wish to specify).

This option allows you to backup the data to a folder on your computer.  If you are someone who uses other backup media to save your files, then this option is recommended as a quick and easy way to organize the files which you want to backup.  However, if you want to use this option as the primary means of backing up your files, then it is not recommended; it is good to have copies of your files on your computer in case you accidentally delete something, but generally the reason people have backups is in case of a system crash which requires a computer to be formatted or in case of a hard drive failure, and in both of these disaster scenarios this backup method is not adequate because the backup folder will be inaccessible.

Another computer on my network

If your computer is part of a network and you thus have the option to do this, it is generally the best way to backup your files, because it is quick, convenient, and it will provide adequate protection in case of emergencies.

CD-R/RW/DVD

This backup method is recommended if you have many files which you want to backup. If you are only saving a few small files, then you should use floppy disks because they are generally a little faster and a little less expensive than CDs and DVDs.  However, if you are backing up more than, say, 15 or 20 MB of data, then using a CD or DVD is an excellent method of backing up, because both media can safely store a great deal of data and both are quite easy to restore from.
